A fleeting visit from our girl in the City

Blimey, where did those last three weeks go.....

Firstly, thanks for all the “likes” this week for my first blog, it’s so lovely to hear that people find my journey encouraging and inspiring so I wanted to share my last couple of weeks with you, apologies if it comes across a bit rushed, but I’m off on my holibubs Thursday (for those who I haven’t bored with the details) and just wanted to check in before I check out for a few weeks on my Road trip.....

OK, so I mentioned that there was going to be some highs and lows and I could lie to you and say that I have been 100% clean but that would be a big fat fib....I started off with the greatest of intentions, checked my diary for meetings etc and as I usually do at start of the week, work out best days for fasting and what broker lunches or meetings I have and try and plan around it....

So, Monday looms and I head off to buy myself some fizz for the week, yep I always treat myself to a bottle of fizz every morning on way to work, this is of the sparkling water variety coupled with fresh mint and fresh lime.  Every day I buy a 2 litre bottle of water and proceed to drink it alongside the fruit teas, usual visits to the ladies throughout the day occur but hey they are used to it now!! I find that the fresh mint keeps the hunger pains at bay too.  Mondays are fairly easy for me as I have so many meetings I don’t get the opportunity to think much about food and I head out to a spinning class at lunch so by time I get back its 1.30 and I’m ready to eat the whole of the garden that I have brought in that day.  Monday and Tuesday I’m going great guns and the 10 minute workouts are still getting cursed, they never get any easier for me, despite exercising a lot, these little bursts of “joy” kill me, but when you see the results it keeps you going....thanks JP!!  I try and cook some of the recipes in the week when I can, the Chicken Stir Fry is one of my faves cos I can eat loads of Pak Choi, love it!

Weds 6am I’m off spinning still going well (I have to confess the workouts do not get done before this mid-week as getting up at 5.15am is hard enough to head into the City for a class) praying train doesn’t break down as I look like i’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards on Weds and Friday mornings when I get the early early train and really don’t want to see anyone I know when I’m without make-up ewwwww not nice.....for them...rush into office for 9am whole day meeting so today is a fasting day, apologies in advance for any tummy  noises and toilet breaks throughout the day, then lunchtime comes and all they have is sandwiches, crisps and cakes, my nightmare, I really don’t like bread anymore, or rather my body doesn’t like it, but I have fasted for long enough and I need to eat so I pick what I think is the least calorific, prawn and chicken, avoid the cakes and crisps like the plague, but then in the afternoon because I am still a bit peckish end up eating a couple of biscuits.  I would say I didn’t beat myself up about it but I did think oops! After the meeting we are all out for drinks and I am also heading off to see Leona Lewis at the Royal Albert Hall that night with a good friend, so after a number of rather large glasses of wine and a few of the males asking me why I want to see a retired boxer at the Royal Albert Hall, err no its Leona Lewis not Lennox Lewis thank you I head off and I would like to apologise now to those in the seats around me for my singing along.....I don’t recall anyone tutting or asking me to keep quiet so maybe I’m in line for the next Voice UK.....then maybe not!

Late night, no food, not good.....up early Thursday train to Bristol, another fasting day (partly cos I feel a bit rough, but I have my protein shake for bit later) meetings all day in Bristol then out for more drinks with colleagues and then off for a curry, I don’t particularly mind going for a curry because I can eat fairly clean and asked for a Lamb Shashlick and spinach bhaji NO RICE or BREAD so all in all I tried to eat clean ......

Back into London Friday for last day of the week yippee, on route back to London was quite nice to be told I was a cheap date when ordering just a hot water for journey back, I always carry my fruit tea bags just in case.....

So all in all a fairly manic work week with a little blip mid-week, I tried to eat clean when I could and carrying out the exercises help, but sometimes it can be difficult to be completely clean when the food intake is out of your control, obviously the alcohol is my choice but I hope that the exercise helps and I’m certainly not drinking as much as I use too :)

I try and make sure that when I have a crazy work week socialising the weekends I try and avoid alcohol and opt to drive and eat clean and go to the gym, I love to cook so either head off to my local butcher of fishmongers to see what I can concoct for the weekend a la MC&L....usually its fish related, love the girls on the fish stall, they have taken to calling miss skinny minny which I secretly like, they are currently on a bhaji and bhuna ban apparently which makes me chuckle.....

On Saturday I received all the clothes back I sent for altering, this consisted of 6 dresses, 9 pairs of trousers and 3 skirts, I now have a new work wardrobe that fits, she told me she had to take the hips in by at least 4 - 6 inches, and more on the waist, that made me smile, not sure I can afford many more bills like that though but all worth it, then Saturday afternoon I finished my last bit of shopping for the hols, I am still finding it hard to get my head around buying size 10 and 12 but it’s a good feeling, for the first time in a long time, I tried on a dress asked for a size down and then came out of the cubicle to give myself a twirl, believe me 6 months ago that would never have happened....

Sunday I had the family over for dinner, again as I am cooking I can control what culinary dishes I put before them, but to be fair my dad is meat and tatties man so I opt for the traditional roast however, I stick to a low fat variety for me and the full on for the rest of the clan.  My 92 year old nan came with them and I was telling them all about the blog:

Nan: So what is a blog then?

Me: It’s a bi-weekly update on my progress on the new lifestyle I am keeping nan

Nan: Oh a bit like Bridget Jones and her diary then? I always thought you had a touch of the bridgets about you?

Me: Thanks Nan

Nan: No big knickers anymore then?

Me: Er no thanks nan!!!!

Gotta love them, they can get away with murder at that age haha

Monday is still weighing day for me and I am pleased to report that I actually lost 2.5lbs this week so am really chuffed in light of my mid-week blip, it just goes to show that you can still lose it if you exercise, drink the water and try and keep as clean as you can

It’s Wednesday night and I’m finally all packed and heading off on my Californian Road Trip with my new wardrobe and new bikinis, I’ve got my exercises written down to keep me going whilst I’m away and I will try and eat clean and lean but hey who am I kidding, it’s a holiday so I am going to enjoy myself and be back in 2 weeks and will join one of the 10 day Beach Body or in my case After the Beach Body plans....

Have a good few weeks everybody
